John 8:32 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
33 They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Great paintings, I enjoyed them..
As a Tasmanian now, Do you think Australian States are divergent in their culture and epistemology? And how des this divergence affect your preaching?

Thanks for your comment Steve!

I'm gradually uploading more pics of my paintings.

The scriptures you quote are indeed the source of the symbolism in the painting, and also Christ's statement that he is the light of the world. The man is taken from an ancient Roman bust, and the lamp and key are also 1st century Roman. The bars and walls, however, are from photos I took at Port Arthur. I photoshopped the bars and bust together, added colour gradients to get the light effect and colours, then used that as a reference for the painting and added the key from an illustration in an encyclopaedia and the lamp from imagination.

Having only lived in two and visited four, I can't speak of all the states, but yes there are definitely differences in culture and demography. Not sure about epistemology though. I think most Westerners work on roughly the same epistemological assumptions.

We've also moved to a town that has approximately four a half million fewer people than the last place we lived, so that makes a difference too! As far as affecting my preaching, preaching in a rural small town context to a predominately older generation of believers is more a factor than any difference in state culture.
